    "Bhajan Samraat" (Emperor of Bhajans) Anup Jalota, born on 29th July 1953, is an Indian singer and musician, best known for his performances in the Hindu devotional music Bhajans and the Urdu form of poetry, Ghazals. Padma Shri for 2012 has been conferred upon him in the field of Art-Indian Classical Music- Vocal by Government of India. Anup Jalota, the household name for Bhajans and Ghazals, has thought of nothing but music all his life. His father, Bhajan exponent Purushottam Das Jalota, is also his mentor. Born in Nainital and educated in Lucknow, he started his musical career as an All India Radio chorus singer. Little wonder that he enjoys an incredible fan following beyond the boundaries of India right up to North America and Europe..

He was the Asian Secretary of the International Federation of Film Societies (2010-12), Vice President of the Federation of Film Societies of India (2010-14) and General Secretary of the Federation of Film Societies of India (2014-16). He is the President of the Film Critics Circle of India, General Secretary of the Indian Film Critics Association and Executive Member of FIPRESCI-India. He is working as the advisor and curator for several International Film Festivals in home & abroad. He has served in the Official Jury of many International Film Festivals in different countries.

A Professor in Politics of an undergraduate college under West Bengal State University, She is also a member of International Film Critics’ Association i.e. Fipresci. Presently she is editing a book on Indian Regional Films. She is the Editor of the International film journal“FilmBuff” ( She is working on her doctoral thesis titled "City and Cinema". She is a regular writer in various academic journals, web magazines, national and International publications.
